When I was a child, I used to go “junking” with my great aunt in California. “Junking” was her term for hitting the garage sales. I used to hate it. It was used stuff…ewwww! But now I have a new appreciation for items with “previous experience”. After all, isn’t it wise to let someone else pay the depreciation on it? With so many great stores out there, you hardly realize the stuff has “history”.

“Vintage” is hot with the young adults. One of my girlfriends told me that her daughter said that she doesn’t wear used clothing, she wears “vintage” Hollister! Isn’t it funny how we have so many “cool” words for “used” these days?

We’ve all heard of “hand me downs” and with over 6000 Google references it now seems that “hand me ups” is a popular term. My husband is a “classic” kind of guy. I am a “second hand” kind of gal. We both like to “recycle” our “nearly new” stuff to other “collectors”.

I recently bought a “pre-owned” van. I paid about 10% of the new price, so I’m pretty happy with my “treasure”. After all, don’t vehicles lose a grotesque amount of money once you drive them off the lot? Why, my new packrat mobile is just broken in! Sure she has a few scratches and dings, but for $25,000 off the new price, I think I can deal with that. Think about all the stress I am saving myself had I bought something new and someone dinged my door!

My boys love a good sale too. They know that Mom will allow them to buy something that they are not likely to get if we go to a retail store. “Sure honey, you can buy that $20 toy for $3!” More importantly, they are inclined to sell their toys because they get money to spend! They have quickly learned that they can buy a $20 toy for $3, play with it and then turn around and “resell” it when they are done with it for $3 and break even on the deal! In some cases they have bought low and sold high, which really gets them excited about their “thriftiness”.

Whatever you choose words like “vintage”, “pre-owned” or “classic”, know that “previous experience” is a wise way to help you stay within your budget!

So, sit back and enjoy our Summer Edition and discover even more ways to stay within your budget and still have a great time doing it!

Spotlight Reseller: Computer Renaissance

NASHVILLE~ Are you ready to upgrade your computer, but don’t know what to do with your old one? Check into Computer Renaissance. Computer Renaissance is a franchise sister to Once Upon A Child, Plato’s Closet and Play it Again Sports. They purchase and refurbish computers 4 years or newer. They sell new and used computers and monitors as well as new computer components for those of you who like to build them yourselves. Computer Renaissance technicians can also custom build a computer to your specifications.

But what Computer Renaissance specializes in is service. Technicians are A+ Certified and on average, turn around times for repair service is 48-72 hours. We checked into pricing for computer service and by far, Computer Renaissance had the best prices. They primarily take care of PC’s but do offer Mac service on software only. Service is cheaper if you take your computer to the store for service, however, they do offer on site house calls.

When I went to visit the store, I have to tell you that the guys were really easy to talk to. No high pressured sales, nothing like that. Just a couple of regular guys who wanted to help me with my computer “issues”. No geek speak, nothing over my head. I like that, especially since the only I know how to do on my computer is turn it on.
